Cheshire East Council, headquartered in Sandbach, are proposing to build thousands of houses in Handforth.
The proposed location covers about 225 acres of the land South-East of the roundabout at the junction of the A34 bypass and the A6MARR (A555). Heald Green (and Cheadle Hulme, and Cheadle and Bramhall and Hazel Grove) is already overburdened with traffic. The additional traffic generated by a massive housing development on this site will cause absolute gridlock on our roads. But of course this will not be Cheshire East Council’s problem!
The use of this site for housing was put forward in Cheshire East Council’s proposed Local Plan. After an Examination in Public, the Government’s Planning Inspector agreed the proposals.
In addition to this site, several hundred additional houses are proposed in Handforth, between Clay Lane and Sagars Road.
Ratepayers organised and held meetings with the councillors from Cheshire East Council and other affected ward councillors from Stockport, to work together jointly, in opposition to the proposals but the plans were still agreed.
