The councillors have sought clarification and can advise that waste disposal facilities are still open for trade waste so companies offering to remove residents’ waste are still operating and are able to dispose of waste correctly. However, it is an individual resident’s responsibility to check that they are using a registered waste carrier and they should also seek a receipt for the collection of their waste. Residents can be prosecuted for fly-tipping if their waste is not disposed of lawfully, even if they have paid someone else to take it away in good faith.
